The 'valid through' or expiration date on the back of the Card can go up to 14 years in the future is designed to facilitate transactions and protect against fraud, and it is not intended to limit its use. Contact American Express Gift Card customer care at 888-846-4308 if the date on your Card has passed.

The American Express Gift Card can be used at U.S. merchants that accept American Express Cards. Funds do not expire. No ATM cash withdrawal. Some limitations apply, including restriction on use for recurring billing. See Cardholder Agreement for complete details. Card cannot be redeemed for cash, except where required by law.   • At checkout in-store, swipe your Card, select ‘Credit’ on the keypad.

How to Use Your Gift Card to Shop Online

  1. Make sure the balance of the American Express Gift Card is more than the entire cost of the purchase, including taxes.
  2. Please note: some transaction types require a hold of up to 20% above the purchase amount. See your Cardholder Agreement for more information.
  3. Select ‘Credit’ as the Payment Method (Do not select ‘Gift Card’).
  4. In the Payment Method section, enter the card information as you would a credit card.
  5. In the Billing Address section, please fill in your name and address.
